The Chief and Council are the authorized government and legal authority on the English River First Nation reserve.  The community members grant power to an elected Chief and Council to govern the land and property of the First Nation for them.  Councilors, including the Chief, thereby assume responsibility for programs and service delivery, financial management, policy development, and planning and control systems.

The Chief and Council are concerned with the well being of members and the wise use of land and resources. At the broadest level, the Chief and Council fulfill certain needs, deliver services and are accountable to their members.
