Annual events:

  • Treaty Days: Treaty day happens every summer in July. It takes place by the local Northern store and rivers edge. A variety of games, entertainments are provided for everyone’s enjoyment.
  • Youth Conference: The Youth camps are for the children and youth of English River First Nation and other surrounding communities. This event is always held at the beach. Cultural programs are practiced and the children are encouraged to continue practicing our traditional ways.
  • Pilgrimage: A pilgrimage at the grotto is held every summer in late July early August.
  • Culture Camp: The cultural camps are an important part of educating the youth at Patuanak about their culture. At these camps, which usually take place at the traditional hunting grounds, the youth learn survival techniques in the wilderness. Young women learn how to clean and skin animals as well as prepare meals, make bannock and tea over open fire. The young men help with these chores and get water, hunt and track animals.
  • New Years Celebration: A skating party is held on New Year’s Eve, to promote a healthy lifestyle and family unity. It consists of a skating party and games, which ends by serving a midnight lunch and wishing everyone for a blessed new year. The turnouts have always been large and it’s an event that is looked forward to.
